London Calling - Our next 5.1 mix?

Posted on May 12, 2013

Just back from London, England!  Music Valet is in full gear nailing down the next record we're going to give the proper 5.1 treatment.  I made a list some time ago of records I thought deserved a 5.1 mix, and there's more than a few British artists on the list.

In addition to some great meetings with artists and management discussing proper 5.1 remixes of their works, other highlights included a private tour of Abbey Road (thanks Kevin!) which is really a shrine to all of us that are passionate about music, and the studios and technologies that bring it to life.  Abbey Road really mixes old and new.  A great example is Studio 2, which is probably the most famous studio in the world, thanks to its lineage with The Beatles.  When you walk into Studio 2, you find things literally unchanged from back in the day.  The difference is when you walk into the control room, it's filled with the latest technology available.  Further proof that the environment in which records are made really brings that initial magic to the recording process.  Technology is important, but a great room is like an instrument.

The trip culminated in an amazing sold-out show at O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire with some great friends, the band Athlete.  The guys were on fire and blew me away.  If you don't know this band, you must check them out!

Best,

Richard LaBonté, Music Valet
